Non-contingent Reinforcement (NCR)

Non-contingent Reinforcement (NCR) is a procedure where stimuli known to have reinforcing properties are delivered on a predetermined schedule, such as fixed-time (FT) or variable-time (VT), regardless of the learner’s behavior.

Example

For example, in an NCR procedure to reduce attention-seeking behavior, the therapist might provide attention every 2 minutes (fixed-time schedule) without requiring the learner to engage in a specific behavior to earn that attention.
