Most to Least Prompt Fading (MTL)

Most to Least Prompt (MTL) Fading: This teaching strategy involves starting with the most intensive prompt necessary to ensure a correct response from the learner and then systematically fading out the prompts until the learner can perform the behavior independently.

Example

In teaching a child to tie their shoes, you might begin by physically guiding their hands through the steps (most intrusive prompt). Over time, you reduce assistance, perhaps switching to a verbal prompt, until the child can tie their shoes on their own without any prompts.
