Interobserver agreement (IOA)

Definition

Interobserver Agreement (IOA) refers to the consistency between two or more independent observers when they record the same behavior or event. IOA is an important measure of the accuracy and reliability of data collected during behavioral observations, as it ensures that different observers are seeing and interpreting behaviors in the same way.

Example

Two therapists independently observe and record the number of times a student raises their hand during a 30-minute class. If both record the same number of instances, the IOA is high, meaning their data collection is consistent.
