Socially Mediated Positive Reinforcement

Socially Mediated Positive Reinforcement occurs when a behavior is followed by the addition of a stimulus (a reinforcer) delivered by another person, which increases the likelihood that the behavior will happen again in the future. This type of reinforcement depends on social interaction to provide the reinforcement.

Example

A child completes their homework and immediately receives praise from a parent, such as “Great job on your homework!” The praise (positive reinforcement) comes from another person (socially mediated) and increases the likelihood that the child will complete homework in the future to receive similar praise.
