Positive Punishment

Positive Punishmentย is a process in which an aversive stimulus is added to the environment following aย behavior, with the goal of reducing the likelihood that theย behaviorย will occur again in the future.

Example

A child touches a hot stove and experiences pain (the aversive stimulus). As a result, the child is less likely to touch the stove again in the future, as the addition of the painful sensation serves as positive punishment, decreasing theย behaviorย of touching the stove.
