Positive Punishment

Positive Punishment is a process in which an aversive stimulus is added to the environment following a behavior, with the goal of reducing the likelihood that the behavior will occur again in the future.

Example

A child touches a hot stove and experiences pain (the aversive stimulus). As a result, the child is less likely to touch the stove again in the future, as the addition of the painful sensation serves as positive punishment, decreasing the behavior of touching the stove.
