In the Alone Condition, the learner is left alone without access to attention or reinforcing items, meaning there is no interaction or access to things that could provide reinforcement.
Example
During a functional behavior assessment, a therapist might place a child in a room by themselves without toys or attention to see if behaviors like hand-flapping occur when the child is alone. If the behavior happens, it could suggest that the behavior may be maintained by automatic reinforcement (reinforced by the behavior itself rather than external factors like attention or items).
