Automatic Reinforcement

Automatic Reinforcement occurs when a behavior is reinforced by the sensory consequences it produces, without the need for external rewards or social interactions. The behavior itself provides its own reinforcement because it directly results in a pleasurable or satisfying outcome.

Example:

A child rocking back and forth may do so because it feels soothing or comforting, and this sensory experience reinforces the behavior. The rocking is maintained by automatic reinforcement because the child continues the behavior to experience the pleasant sensation.
