Treatment Integrity

Treatment Integrity refers to the degree to which an independent variable or intervention is applied consistently and as originally planned or designed. High treatment integrity means that the intervention is being implemented exactly as intended, ensuring the validity of the experiment or treatment.

Example

behavior analyst designs a behavior intervention plan for a student that includes delivering praise every time the student completes a task. If the teacher follows the plan exactly—providing praise immediately and consistently after each task completion—then the treatment has high integrity. Any deviation, such as praising only occasionally or delaying the praise, would lower treatment integrity.
