Stimulus Fading

Stimulusย Fadingย is a procedure in which a particular physical characteristic of aย stimulusย is made more prominent to help the learner respond correctly. Over time, the highlighted feature is gradually reduced or faded until the learner can perform theย behaviorย independently without needing the enhancedย stimulus.

Example

A teacher uses a brightly colored card to help a student identify the correct answer during a matching task. As the student becomes more proficient, the brightness of the card is gradually faded until the student can identify the correct answer without the highlighted cue.
