Reflex

A reflex is an involuntary, automatic response to a specific stimulus. Reflexes are typically hardwired into an organism’s nervous system and occur without conscious thought or control. They serve as protective mechanisms and are often necessary for survival.

Example

When a doctor taps below a patient’s knee, the leg automatically kicks out in response. This is known as the patellar reflex. The stimulus (tapping below the knee) triggers an automatic response (leg kicking) without any voluntary control from the individual.
