Planned Activity Check (PLACHECK)

Planned Activity Check (PLACHECK) is a variation of momentary time sampling used to measure group behavior in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). In this method, an observer records the number of individuals engaged in a target behavior at specific intervals during a planned activity. It provides an estimate of group participation or engagement rather than individual behavior.

Example

A teacher uses PLACHECK to measure how many students are on-task during a group reading activity. Every 5 minutes, the teacher checks to see how many students are actively reading (the target behavior) and records the number of students engaged at that specific moment. If 8 out of 10 students are reading at the check, the teacher records that 80% of the students were engaged in the activity during that interval.
