Percent of Occurrence

Percent of Occurrence is a data measurement method used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to express the number of times a behavior occurred, relative to the total number of opportunities, as a percentage. This method is useful when you want to assess how often a behavior occurs compared to how many chances the individual had to engage in that behavior.

Formula:

Percent of Occurrence=(Number of times behavior occurredTotal opportunities)×100\text{Percent of Occurrence} = \left( \frac{\text{Number of times behavior occurred}}{\text{Total opportunities}} \right) \times 100

Example:

A teacher gives a student 10 opportunities to answer questions during class. The student answers correctly 7 times. To calculate the percent of occurrence:

Percent of Occurrence=(710)×100=70%\text{Percent of Occurrence} = \left( \frac{7}{10} \right) \times 100 = 70\%

This means the student correctly answered the questions 70% of the time.
